Serial Units
Coming soon. The Serial Units page is not yet available in the current release. Serial number data is captured on receipts and shipments, and full serial unit management will be added in an upcoming update.
The Serial Units page will track every individual unit of a serialised item — from the moment it arrives to the moment it ships (or is scrapped). The information below describes the planned feature.
Serial statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| In Stock | At a known location in one of your facilities |
| Shipped | Has left your custody on a sales shipment |
| Returned | Came back from a customer |
| Scrapped | Permanently removed from inventory |
Reading the table
Each row is one physical unit. Key columns:
- Serial No. — your unique identifier for this unit
- Item — what it is and its item number
- Lot — the production or receipt lot, if the item is also lot-tracked
- Current Location — facility and bin where the unit is right now (blank if shipped)
- Received — when it came into your inventory
- Shipped — when it left (blank if still in stock)
Searching
The search box matches against serial number, item name, and item number. Use this when a customer contacts you about a specific unit — search their serial number to see its full location history.
Chain of custody
Every status change for a serial unit — received, transferred, shipped, returned — is recorded on the inventory ledger. The ledger entry carries the serial number, so you can reconstruct the complete history of any unit.
Returned units
When a customer returns a serialised item, receive it against the return document. The unit’s status changes from Shipped back to In Stock (at the receiving location). If the unit is damaged, move it to a Damaged location and update the stock status accordingly.
