Bill of Materials
A Bill of Materials (BOM) is the recipe for a manufactured item. It lists every component, sub-assembly, and raw material needed to produce one unit of the finished good.
BOM structure
Each BOM has:
- A finished item — the thing being made
- A version — BOMs are versioned so you can track changes over time
- A status — Draft, Active, or Archived
- Component lines — each specifying an item, quantity, and unit of measure
BOM statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Being built — not yet usable for production |
| Active | Live — can be selected on work orders |
| Archived | Retired — visible for history but cannot be used |
Only Active BOMs can be selected when creating a work order.
Versioning
When you change a BOM (e.g. a supplier substitution or formula update), create a new version rather than editing the active one. This preserves the historical record of what was used to make goods produced under the old version.
To create a new version:
- Open the active BOM
- Click New version
- Make your changes
- Activate the new version — the old version is archived automatically
Component quantities
Component quantities are expressed per one unit of the finished item. If your BOM produces in batches (e.g. 100 units per run), set the BOM yield accordingly and Atrope will scale component quantities to match the work order quantity.
Phantoms and sub-assemblies
If a component is itself manufactured (a sub-assembly), Atrope supports nested BOMs. The sub-assembly must have its own active BOM, and its components will be exploded when you plan production.
