Inter-facility Transfers
A transfer moves stock from one facility to another. During transit, the stock is tracked in an In Transit status — it’s left the origin but hasn’t arrived at the destination yet.
Transfer lifecycle
Draft → In Transit → Partially Received → Received → Closed
Creating a transfer
- Go to Transfers and click + New transfer
- Select the origin facility and destination facility
- Add lines — items, lots/serials, quantities, and source locations
- Post the transfer
When posted:
- Stock at the origin is moved to In Transit status
- A Transfer Out ledger entry is posted at the origin
- The transfer appears as pending at the destination
Receiving a transfer
When stock arrives at the destination:
- Open the transfer in Transfers
- Click Receive
- Confirm quantities (partial receipt is supported)
- Post
On receipt:
- In Transit stock converts to Available at the destination location
- A Transfer In ledger entry is posted
- The transfer status updates to Received or Partially Received
Why the In Transit status matters
Stock in transit is visible but not available for order fulfilment. This prevents the same units from being allocated to two different orders simultaneously — one at the origin and one at the destination.
Within a facility
Moving stock between locations inside the same facility (e.g. from receiving dock to bin A3-12-04) is an internal transfer. It posts a location change but no status change.
